ALDURIA IN BRIEF
  • Ferdinand Johnson, president of the Bank of Alduria, launched a year-long strategy review. It will consider whether changes to the monetary policy toolkit are needed to revive growth in the Aldurian economy, insulate the Aldurian economy from the ongoing recession in trade partner Ransenar, and help the bank maintain price stability. Mr. Johnson is also keen to assess whether tilting Alduria's financial system towards green assets fits the bank’s mandate.
  • Protests in Punta Santiago, Narbonne, Susa, and Behaurnais continue as two new attacks on Prosperity for All Megachurch of Plenty churches in Punta Santiago and Beauharnais have left 20 dead and 13 seriously wounded. The continued silence by the Government on the wave of Zurvanite violence against the church have brought millions of protesters across several cities to demand Prime Minister Velez resign. A much-delayed statement made by Deputy Prime Minister Marco Zimmer instead has fueled more popular anger.
  • Continued paralysis in government and Parliament is fueling the highest levels of national popular discontent since the founding of the Republic. In a recent poll conducted by the IOP, 65% of Aldurians are now expressing that they are dissatisfied with the direction of the country as the wave of violence across the country threatens to exacerbate the existing racial tensions between the Alexandrocaputian majority and the Babhki minority in Alduria.
  • Corporate financial officers in Alduria are forecasting an impending economic downturn, according to a new survey of around 150 chief financial officers conducted by the Aldurian consulting firm Susa Consulting Group (SCG). In its CFO Signals report covering 1679 thru 1680, SCG found that 97 percent of CFOs queried believe either an economic slowdown or recession will occur before the end of 1680. Many listed as a cause the ongoing economic recession in Ransenar and the ongoing political crises at home.
  • National polling on foreign affairs reflects that 62% of Aldurian support joining the Raspur Pact, according to the IOP.
